What is more festive than Cornish game hens? They have a wonderful taste and this recipe leaves them perfectly moist and tasty! This recipe is not difficult at all. The crockpot does all of the hard work for you! We had these tasty little birds on a Wednesday evening after I worked all day. Yes, I did prep them the night before and turned on the crockpot before I left for work. The main dish was done by the time I got home.
Here’s the recipe:
Ingredients:
Celery (chopped up)
1 onion
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup butter
1 tbsp minced garlic
1 stick of melted butter
Salt and pepper to taste
Dash of parsley
Carrots
And of course
Cornish Game Hens
Make sure they are thawed.
Prep your crock pot with some non stick cooking spray.
Next, chop up your onion and celery.
Mix together the following ingredients:
Soy sauce
Melted butter
Garlic
Dijon mustard
Salt
Pepper
Parsley
Place some carrots, chopped up celery and some chopped up onions in the bottom of the crockpot.
Unwrap your little game hens and make sure the inside is clean of any giblets or left over parts.
Using a basting brush, brush on enough of your mixture to cover the birds.
After that step is done, mix the rest of the onion and celery into your dijon mixture. Place inside the cavity of the birds.
Yes, your kitchen will smell amazing at this point.
Lay your birds flat into the crockpot on top of your carrots and celery.
These game hens hung out in my refrigerator overnight. But if you do not need to do that then you can continue cooking.
Cook them in the crockpot on low for 8 hours. They will come out as tasty and juicy as ever. I do really love this recipe. Heck, I’m taking some of these leftovers for work tomorrow. I served mine with some pasta and stuffing. These birds would be wonderful for a small get together during this holiday season.
