Container Garden Potatoes

Welcome back readers! This edition is about my garden potatoes that are growing in a mesh bag.  They are doing very well I might add! I just cannot wait for potato harvest time. Freshly boiled potatoes fresh out of the garden make a meal in itself pretty much. (Yes, I grew up in garden country)

What other containers have you grown potatoes in? Please feel free to leave your comments below.

Potatoes take time to grow obviously. But if you are patient and can wait a few weeks,  you will be in potato heaven!

Here is what I started out with:

Buried potatoes in a cheap mesh bag. Bag was $5 by the way.  Then all of a sudden they started growing!

Watering them with Miracle Grow and Epsom salt is working wonders. I also water them very well every 2 to 3 days.
Occasionally,  I add more dirt and loosen the dirt that has packed down due to the water.  Plenty of sun is also a prescription for a potato harvest. So water with nutrients,  sun and loosening compacted soil.

Here is what I have now:

Beautiful green blooms! Yes, you want to see this in your garden. It makes you smile doesn’t it?! Well, it makes me smile 🙂

Having fun gardening is one joy in this world that I would not want to give up.  My kids help me as well.  The oldest especially liked tossing in more dirt and moving it around.  Mainly because it was messy and that’s what she likes lol

Post pictures of your garden and any tips that you would like to share.

Have fun!

  1. Hi, I am growing some early potatoes in a hessian sack like bag, well it’s like a hessian sack only more robust. I tried this a few years ago and from five potatoes I harvested eleven pounds of new potatoes. They taste so much better freshly picked and cooked yum.

    1. This is my first year growing potatoes but when I was growing up at home my grandparents did it every year and the potatoes where phenomenal! I can’t wait for the harvest to come in.
